Class packs families can book themselves

November 2, 2026 · 4 min read · by James, half-owner of a dance studio

In August we added class cards: a family buys a five- or ten-class card, and a class comes off it each time a dancer is marked present. That works well when people just show up.

A studio that moved to Presently ran their adult classes as class packs in their old system. Students bought a pack, then booked the specific classes they wanted to take, which let the studio see who was coming and cap the room. So class cards now work that way too.

Choose which classes can be booked

On any class, turn on Families can book this class with a class card. Only those classes are offered for booking, so your tuition classes stay exactly as they are.

Families book from the portal

The portal's Class Cards page now shows the next four weeks of dates for every bookable class, grouped by day, with the spots left. A parent picks which family member they're booking for and books a date. They can see their upcoming bookings on the same page and cancel one any time before the class starts.

A booking puts the dancer on that day's roll, so teachers see who's coming, and it takes a spot, so a full class stops taking bookings.

A card can't be overbooked

Each upcoming booking holds a class on the card. A five-class card can have five classes booked at most, and the family is told to buy a new card when they run out. The class actually comes off the card when the dancer is marked present, the same as before.

Only card classes use the card

This one was a bug, and it's fixed. A family's card used to be punched whenever anyone in the family was marked present, so a parent's adult card could lose a class because their child went to ballet. Now only the classes a card is for use it up: card bookings, classes billed to a card, free drop-ins, and walk-ins. Tuition classes, makeups, paid drop-ins, and trials never touch it.

Is a class pack right for your program?

  • Adult classes where attendance changes week to week.
  • Open technique or conditioning classes that students mix and match.
  • Small rooms where you need to cap the class and know who's coming.

Your weekly kids' classes can stay on monthly tuition while the adult program runs on packs, all in the same family account.
