Since 2011, my wife has built and operated a successful dance studio. She's done the real work: teaching classes, managing staff, building relationships with families, and handling everything that makes a studio thrive. I've been behind the scenes providing tech support, and over the years I've spent countless hours building custom systems and workarounds on top of (and around) our existing studio management software, trying to fill the gaps and fix the shortcomings.
We've experienced the frustration of carefully managing student counts to stay just under pricing thresholds, only to face steep jumps in monthly bills. We've paid extra fees for credit card processing, SMS messaging, and basic features that should be standard. Every added expense, every limitation, every "that's not how our system works" response chipped away at what we could invest back into our business and our families.
Presently was born from our own experience running a studio. Every tool, process, and feature you see here came from real challenges we faced and solved in our own business. But we also know that every organization is different. Whether you run a dance studio, music school, martial arts academy, tutoring center, swim school, or any business that manages students, families, classes, and instructors. What works perfectly for us might not be exactly what you need.
That's why we're building Presently to fit your operations, not forcing you to change how you run your business to fit our software.
We're still pretty new, but we're building this for real studio owners (like you). Found a bug? Tell us. Want it to work differently? Let us know. Missing a feature? We'll probably add it. Your feedback shapes what Presently becomes.
We built Presently from scratch with modern technology, the same tools used by companies like Shopify and Netflix. The result? A faster, more reliable platform that we can improve and adapt quickly based on what you actually need.
We're studio owners ourselves, and we're building the software we wish we'd had from day one. Transparent pricing. No hidden fees. No contracts.
Let's build something better together. Your business deserves software that works as hard as you do.
The name is a play on words: "present" as in taking attendance in class, and "presently" meaning current, modern, happening now, as opposed to the outdated legacy systems that don't adapt well to how studios actually operate today. That's the spirit behind our promise to you: manage the moment, whether it's a Tuesday-night class, a costume invoice, or recital weekend.
As for our crowned bear logo? When I told my wife the name, she immediately thought of a scene from Brave where Queen Elinor (just before her transformation) says the word "presently" in a very regal, queenly way. The bear wearing a crown is our little tribute to that moment, and to the queen who runs our own studio.
Honest writing about the day-to-day of dance and music studios. By an operator, for operators.
Studios that audition for Ballet Company or Competition Team usually run the offer-and-acceptance process in email and Google Docs. Here's why that breaks.
Most studio software has one online-registration form. Parents arrive in two very different states of mind, and forcing both through the same flow loses families.
Most class schedules are weekly, but biweekly solos and small-group classes show up in almost every competitive studio. Here's how to think about scheduling them.
